Drugstore Foundations Review

With all the variety at the drugstore, it can be hard to pick a foundation. I picked up a few to try out and review. Hopefully, you'll find the perfect foundation for your skintone and skin problems.

Covergirl Tru Blend

This foundation was priced at 8.50, and has 21 color shades available. After testing this out on good skin days, and acne ridden ones, I have found it to have light coverage and a semi matte finish. Another plus for me is the pump cap. I find that one pump is enough for my entire face. Unfortunately, I found this foundation to behave more as a tinted moisturizer. Instead of covering up my acne, it just corrects redness as you can see below. It is a buildable foundation so it is easy to increase coverage. Overall, I did not like this foundation for my skin issues, but if you have discoloration or a few pimples, this foundation can work wonders for evening out your skin tone.

NYX Stay Matte but Not Flat

I recently picked up this foundation at Ulta for 7.49. The product claims to provide full coverage with a matte finish. I find this to be true. The coverage on my acne is phenomenal and it is actually a semi matte finish on my skin. There are over 20 color choices available and the coverage is buildable. This is my favorite drugstore foundation of all time. If your skin is fairly clear, I would recommend going light on this foundation, as it can come across as cakey.

Almay Smart Shade Foundation

I love shade matching makeup. When you have a skin tone as pale as mine, it can be difficult to find a good foundation without looking orange. That's why I picked up Almay Smart Shade Foundation at Target for 9.99. The coverage is very light. It is almost a BB cream, but it has just enough coverage to be counted as a foundation. It is a summer favorite of mine because of the extra SPF 15 in this product. Unfortunately, there are only three color selections (light, medium, dark). The way this product works is that it finds the color under your blemishes and discoloration, and that is the color that it blends into. The foundation starts as a white liquid with black specks. As you begin to blend, it matches perfectly to your skin tone. I tend to use this foundation/BB cream on good skin days during the summer, with concealer on any blemishes over that.

Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Foundation Stick

On my recent trip to Ulta, I picked up this maybelline foundation stick to stick in my purse when I'm on the go. It was relatively cheap at 5.99. It claims to be shine free with medium coverage. This foundation is extremely travel friendly, simply because of its size. However, I find that it tends to to cake around whiteheads, and underground acne.

Summer Essentials

Fashion

1. Sundress

Nasty Gal
Sundresses are one of my favorite staple items for summer. I love how breezy they are and you can pair them with anything! On colder summer days, I would recommend pairing tights with booties. For cheaper sundresses check out Target's summer collection.

2. Statement Skirt
Forever 21

A statement skirt is a must have for summer. Whether paired with booties, tights, tanks, or a statement necklace, bright skirts are easy to rock any day of summer. Try pairing this with lace or crocheted tanks. Or, try a floral skirt with a simple top. If the skirt is bright go for a solid top.

3. Maxi Dress

Forever 21
Maxi dresses are the clothing piece that scream summer! Flowy, light, and breezy, maxi dresses are perfect for sweltering summer days.

4. Swimsuits

H&M

The staple item of the summer! Whether bikini, tankini, or one piece, there are bathing suits for everyone.

Beauty

1. Sunscreen
Hawaiian Tropic

Sunscreen is a summer essential. It prevents sunburn, and skin cancer. My personal favorite is the Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration, because it moisturizes my skin and keeps me cool in the sun. Sunscreen does prevent a tan most of the time, and that brings us to our next beauty essential.

2. Self Tanner

Self tanner is for sure an amazing summer essential. It keeps
you looking sun kissed and gorgeous all summer, without the
orange effect of spray tan. Try Jergens natural glow for a
color that builds up slowly, without looking fake. There is
also barely any smell, and it dries quickly.

4. BB Cream

Loreal bb Cream
The last thing anyone wants in summer is a face with caked on foundation and heavy makeup. BB cream is perfect for evening out your skintone, and covering whiteheads and blackheads. Maybelline bb cream and loreal bb cream are some of the best in the drugstore.

5. Oil Blotting Sheets

Clean and Clear Oil Absorbing Wipes
Let's face it, in summer everyone gets an oily, sweaty mess of a face. Oil absorbing sheets are awesome for removing shine, sweat, dirt, and oil, without disrupting underlying makeup.
